DEBUT, SONG FOR MY BIRTH MOTHER  Book Review

The journey is the important part of life. Lois Mathieu’s wonderful novel illustrates this par excellence. The characters come alive in their struggles, interweaving their stories in a tale of human vulnerability and, ultimately, of human strength. It is this interweaving that brings the story to its climax, but the threads of it are there throughout. We are all connected to each other, in good and in bad, and if we can come to accept this and to embrace it, our lives would be richer and clearer. Adoption does separate, but it also unites and carries a tie to the past. These ties are unavoidable, but not exclusive, and carrying a thread from the present to the past and then the future is ultimately what all our lives are about, are they not?
